Botsalano is located in open Kalahari thorn veld. It is used for the breeding of antelope species and other mammals for the stocking of reserves throughout the Province. There is an extensive network of roads which are accessible to motorists in most vehicles.

This 5 800 ha game reserve is situated 18 km north from the Ramatlabama border post, west of Mahikeng, right off the Botswana border.

Generally mild to very hot, but winter nights can be extremely cold.

The Reserve has more than 2 000 “head” of animals and over 200 bird species are found in the Acacia and Karee woodlands and the extensive grasslands.

Activities include game and bird viewing as well as trophy hunting. Botsalano is one of the most prolific white rhino and antelope breeding grounds in the North West Province, as the veld is very conducive to breeding. It is also home to one of the oldest volcanic craters in the world, which extends through the park into Botswana.
